After care instructions

A mandatory follow-up visit is included in the cost of the circumcision and will be scheduled one week after the procedure.
Your son will feel comfortable within a few hours of the procedure. The following tips will minimize the risk of infection and complications:
* Acetaminophen (Tylenol) is recommended every six hours after the surgery, up to three doses.
* While the wound is healing, keep lubricated with Neosporin or generic triple antibiotic ointment. Make sure to apply a liberal amount of ointment during each diaper change.
* To clean penis, carefully wipe with damp cotton balls (mild unscented soap), pat area dry with soft washcloth and apply ointment.
* Do not be alarmed by a spot of blood about the (size of a quarter) on your baby’s diaper – it is common after surgery.
* In the initial days following the surgery, there may be a yellow-colored scar, which will soon form a crust (this is a sign of healing). Continue to apply ointment.
* The plastic ring will fall off  seven to ten days after the surgery. Discontinue the antibiotic ointment and begin full bathing, making sure the healing wound site is kept dry.
* Complete healing will take ten to fourteen days.

Call our office if the following develops:

1. There are no wet diapers within 8 hours of the procedure.
2. Swelling worsens after 3 days.
3. Fever of 101° F or greater.
4. Pain not relieved by Tylenol.
5. Continuous oozing of blood from the wound site.
6. Plastic ring does not fall off within 10 days.
