After Care Instructions
Once discharged from the circumcision center, your child may start his regular diet as tolerated. Activity will be restricted to resting immediately after surgery and gradually increased over the next few days. Bicycles and other riding toys should be avoided for the first week.
Bathing is delayed until the 3rd post-operative day at which time the bandages can be removed. This is facilitated by sitting in a tub of water with added Epsom salt. This will loosen the crusted dressings, making it easier to remove. Soak in the tub for 30 minutes and pat dry. Do not apply any ointments or reapply bandages to the wound site. Drying with scaling indicates normal healing.
Although stitches are dissolvable, those remaining after 2 weeks should be removed by the doctor. Otherwise, they may leave unsightly holes in the skin called “stitch tunnels”.
Tylenol or ibuprophen pain relievers can be given every 6-8 hours as needed. If prescription medications are given, carefully follow instructions.
Notify our office if:
* Temperature is greater than 100.8F
* Your child refuses to eat
* He has difficulty urinating
* There is uncontrollable bleeding
* Thick, yellow discharge with swelling is present
